The first thing that you would like about this book is the quirky cover.
Just a few days ago my lil’ boy turned 8 and of course I wanted to gift him books. My son is a huge, totally insane fan of Diary of a Wimpy Kid. So I wanted to gift him different genres this time. I sought help from Asha. She and Aarini were very kind to help me choose 8 different types of books for the 8th birthday! Since Divit likes funny books, we chose this one which is funny but also has a very important lesson to convey.
9 year old Tanuj was really fascinated by Ravana – the greatest among all Asura Kings! He loved listening to the story of Ravana from Amma every night before going to bed. He was in awe of this devotee of Lord Shiva with ten heads who was both a hero and a villain. Ten heads – which were a symbol of his knowledge of four Vedas and six Upanishads.
One night after listening to the story of the mighty Ravana, Tanuj went off to sleep not knowing he will get the biggest surprise of his life next morning!! Guess what! He woke up to find himself with ten heads!!
And then started the struggle to survive with those ten heads. Every daily activity was a big chore- brushing teeth for 10 heads, combing hair for 10 heads and even sleeping with those 10 heads! Getting into the bus was nearly impossible and playing football was out of question. How he starts getting used to his heads, becomes pretty famous and finally makes a deal with Ravana to get rid of the other 9 heads makes the story a fun riot.
A very good read that makes one realise that your ego should not get the better of you! Yes that is what happened to Ravana. He was a very knowledgeable, learned, kind and a great king. But it was his ego that led to his destruction.
We all may be good at different things, but we should never let our ego take over.
