Type: Hardcover
Pages: 40 pages
Age group: 6 years and above

Earthquakes for Smartypants is a fun book to introduce kids to the scientific facts of earthquakes. Are you smartypants? Do you ask a lot of questions? Like what is the surface of the earth called? Is Earth actually a rainbow cake? How do you measure earthquakes? Answers to all these are in the book with simple explanations and beautiful illustrations by Pia Alize Hazarika.

Stavya, my 7 year old daughter says, what she loved most about the book is that the author is explaining science to the cat and the cat actually is the smartypants mentioned in the book. This leads to a lot of hilarious moments like when the author explains the earth’s crust, the cat brings a bread crust! The author then goes on to say, “No, you can’t eat the Earth’s crust”.

Binding science concepts in a funny way not only brings chuckles to the kids’ faces but also helps them remember. The sliding of tectonic plates reminds them of a cat going to the park and sliding and questioning about it. This cat is fun and lovely with its know-it-all nature, brings out the funny side of questions with speech bubble style answers by the author, making it conversational. Understanding the details of Science concepts and relating it to the assumptions of what the cat might be asking, makes it a fun and very interesting read for kids. It will be re read again and again as it covers lots of scientific facts.
