To me, the celebrated R K Laxman’s The Common Man comes to life in these pages. The gurkha out to collect his guard fees on the first, the odd ball electrician, and even a cat who chooses to get entangled deep inside a car’s hood. Where would we be without all these characters who enrich our experiences, in myriad ways?
As you chuckle along, you discover the author’s colourful world of centipedes, snakes, and yes, jackfruits. Go ahead, flip these pages and catch the twist in the tail. Join the cobra-chera debate, the desperate search for a Moulana lungi, the creative brainstorming for the world’s economists’ cricket team of eleven.
The author’s simplicity of storytelling in a natural, conversational style, makes this an endearing read. This book is a great addition to any library, especially for Khyrunnisa fans, who love her Butterfingers series for middle graders, Tongue in Cheek , Chuckle Merry Spin and others.
