“Bali Safari, Bali Safari”, yeah that tune still keeps ringing in my head, something I use quite a lot to annoy my daughter, Rhea. The most recent visit to the zoo that I can recollect was on our trip to Bali last year.

Rhea did enjoy watching the animals up close, something she had only seen pictures of in her books. Elephants, Hippo, Giraffe, Lions, all of them.

It started with watching the Tigers do tricks. Since it was a weekend it was really crowded and I had to make Rhea sit on my shoulders so she could see something. During the act they showed a tiger run into a tunnel pretending to eat up a human. Well that was the end of the show for us as Rhea couldn’t take it and started crying. I had a hard time convincing her that it was just an act and that the human was fine, and that the tigers were trained.

Next up was the act by elephants. I think most kids enjoyed that the most with water being splashed by elephants on the audience. Yeah, which kid doesn’t enjoy water being splashed on them, right? This was the highlight of our trip to the zoo, apart from the ice cream at the end of it. Oh wait, there was some more water splashing.

We took the safari jeep that took us to see other animals like Zebra, Tiger, Lion, Giraffe, Crocodile. Rhea had a tough time waking up the tiger from inside the jeep. Didn’t happen.

Apart from the zoo, Bali Safari also had some joy rides. The roller coaster through water was where Rhea had the most fun. No prizes for guessing who was the most scared person on that joy ride. I get butterflies in my tummy when it drops from high up straight into the water. Rhea, on the other hand, enjoys these drops quite a lot.

I remember once just before landing in Istanbul, the plane dropped a lot of height suddenly due to turbulence – Rhea started laughing while everyone else around me was sick, feeling terrible. Crazy!

So that was our day at the Bali Zoo!
