‘Bringing Pluto Back’ is based on the author’s son’s creative imagination: how to make Pluto a planet again! It’s a whimsical tale of three young kids (Viaan, Alice and Teddy) who decide to help Pluto become a planet again! What follows is an adorable story about friendship and acceptance against the backdrop of space.

Armed with a zip line and a bunch of footballs, they aim to make Pluto bigger! With a rhyming scheme, this story is sure to delight your young ones as well as introduce them to the solar system (and the dwarf planets).

Once the trio try to rescue Pluto back to its planetary status, they learn a fantastic lesson about accepting new situations and new friends – an important concept for kids. Sid had no idea about Pluto being a planet earlier and it was a nice way to introduce the concept to him. We particularly enjoyed the ‘Fun Facts’ page towards the end of the book.

The “Bringing Pluto Back” book is a wonderful way to bring a child’s imagination to life. Kudos to the first-time, self-published author, Himanshi Mundeja for bringing Viaan’s Pluto dream to life. I can only imagine how thrilled Viaan must have been to see his Pluto dream in print. I must say, the digital-generated illustrations are quite cute!

On the downside, the story tends to meander quite a bit and my 4 year old could not sit through the whole thing. So we read it over a few days. The rhyming scheme seems disjointed and forced at certain points. A good attempt by the first-time author.

The story is essentially for space enthusiast kids who know about Pluto. If not, be prepared to launch into an interesting explanation!!
