Summary
Slam Dunk! is a funny and exciting book about two best friends, Faizya and Kalpesh, who love playing basketball. They practise at Sporty Sports Academy with their coach, Coach Dollar.
Everything is going well until Kalpesh accidentally damages the new signboard of the academy. He knows he has made a big mistake, but saying sorry does not make Coach Dollar happy. Faizya and Kalpesh then try lots of funny ways to make the coach forgive them. They even try giving him gifts, but things don’t go according to their plan!
Soon, their basketball dreams are in trouble. They have to think of a clever way to fix everything and get back on the court. Along the way, they learn about friendship, teamwork and not giving up.
Why I Loved the Book
I love playing basketball every day in the park – so of course I found it wonderful that the entire story revolves around basketball. What makes it even more exciting is that the story is extremely funny – from start to finish. For example, I was literally rolling on the floor when the Kalpesh innocently gave a confession to Coach Dollar regarding the “Makkhi Lights”, even though coach was just scolding them about untied shoelaces! It reminded me about how scared we sometimes are of our teachers in school, and blurt out everything!!!
I especially liked Faizya and Kalpesh because they are such good friends and always try to help each other, even when they get into trouble. The author has described their adventures so well, that sometimes I felt that I was right there in front of Coach Dollar with them!
My favourite part was when they kept trying to make Coach Dollar forgive them. They had so many ideas for saying sorry, but somehow every plan went wrong! I found these parts very funny because they were trying so hard to make things better, but sometimes they ended up making things worse. I was laughing while also feeling bad for them at the same time.
I also liked how the book shows that basketball is not just about winning. It is about teamwork, friendship and giving everyone a chance to play. The colourful illustrations by Aindri C. made the story even more enjoyable. They helped me imagine what was happening and made the book more fun to read. If you like funny stories, this book is an absolute must read.

This book is about a boy named Tarun who really, really wants a pet. His best friend Joey has a puppy, and Tarun wants to be same as him. But his family keeps saying NO to every pet idea he has. That’s when Tarun starts looking for the most impossible pets ever!
My favourite part was when Tarun decides a lizard named Silent Sunny is his pet and even gives it a full scientific name. Then he tries to make a cow his pet and gives it a super long name with all the planets! I also liked the part where he tries to keep pigeons as pets, and everything goes totally wrong. These parts made me laugh a lot.
The story is funny, but also a little emotional. I felt sad when Tarun had to give up the kitten so someone else wouldn’t feel lonely. That showed that Tarun is kind, not just someone who wants to win a race.
The ending is my favourite because Tarun learns that having a pet is not just about owning one instead it is about caring, sharing, and being kind. I also liked that he helps animals at a shelter.
I would recommend this book to kids who like:
