Posting this review on behalf of my 12 year old, Divit, who has been a Wimpy Kid fan since he was 7 years old!
The first series which I read was the Diary of a Wimpy kid. Before I was introduced to this “rolling on the floor laughing” most hilarious series, I was just reading standalone books. When I was 7, I picked up the first book, and I was instantly hooked. It was so funny, so entertaining, and so relatable. I found myself reading these on repeat mode anywhere anytime!!
Let me introduce you to Greg Heffley, our lead guy, the heart and soul of the series and my favourite. He is just a laid back, funny and ordinary boy just like me (lazy kind, my mom would say). The whole series is about Greg, his elder brother Rodrick and his little most annoying brother Manny.
Partypooper is set a week before Greg’s birthday, and it takes you through Greg’s imagination where he dreams of his big day and his experiences of his day-to-day life, leading up to the final moment. He was bubbling with excitement, for it was a week before his birthday! However, he’s a little bothered, as he’s confused on what to ask for as a gift from his parents on his big day. He’s also a bit lost on what his party will be about. He decides that a party with celebrity guests, DJ music, good food in his backyard would be perfect! In his mind, he was all set to make a mark in history with this mind-blowing party! And his parents seemed to like the idea although they were a little skeptical at first.
With the perfect plan for party rolling, he just had to decide what he wants as his birthday gift. He was in the last of his prime years for receiving fun birthday gifts, before he started getting boring grooming products and dress shirts. And he was going to make the most of it. Eventually, he decides that he wants a special artefact. A collector’s item. There was only one in the whole wide world, and he wanted it.
So, will Greg’s fantasies of his big day come to life? Or will he learn the ugly truth that whatever you want doesn’t always happen?
The whole series is written in the form of a diary (yes that’s the Diary of a Wimpy Kid though Greg wants it to be a journal), filled with experiences from the day to day life of a normal boy, making it extremely relatable. As much as you think, it is nonsensical, let me tell you that whenever I read a Wimpy book, I always notice that it’s like reading a page out of my own life. And the illustrations are simply terrific! They truly bring out the humour in the story!
Coming back to partypopper, do you think Greg will get his much desired antique artefact?
P.S Don’t blame me if it (not the book but the gift he wants) is worthless. Have fun reading this my fellow Wimpy fans!!
Waiting for the next release.
