This is my 9 year old son, Aarav’s review:
I love adventure stories! Some thrillers too, but not too much. I guess it’s because I am also adventurous like Nooni.
Oh wait! Let me introduce the characters of the story. There’s Nooni a young 15yr old girl, then there’s Ajja and Ajji. Ajja and Ajji mean grandparents in Kannada. The story revolves around a pair of heirloom earrings that were accidentally slipped into Nooni’s backpack at the airport in Bangalore.
Nooni who has a break from school, decides to travel with Ajja and Ajji to visit Ujjain, Amritsar, Delhi before returning home and then travel for her Kuchipudi show to the UK. When they reach Ujjain, Nooni finds a small velvet pouch in her backpack with a letter addressed to some Bubbly from Dadi. Now with the earrings in hand and no clue on how the pouch landed in their bags, they set out on a quest to find the rightful owner. They reach Amritsar where they visit the jeweller based on the name of the pouch and that’s the beginning of the actual adventure!
It’s a beautiful story woven with anxiety, adventure, reasoning and most importantly emotions. It’s like travelling in time (I love time travelling and hope it becomes real), touching through various stages of one’s life and struggles. I am very much in awe of Nooni and her grandparents for pursuing the quest. They didn’t give up, they didn’t just hand the earrings over to some random person or report them and then forget about them. At one point in the story the only option left for them, was to donate them!
Phewww and I’m glad the story ended the way it did. I kept bothering Amma because I wanted to constantly share random things from the book as I read it. I even told her I wanted to visit all the places that Nooni did. Amma said we’ll plan soon. Let’s see! I also hope I get to go on a similar adventure when we travel!
Now it’s your turn to grab the book and find out what happens. The story is magical indeed.
