Aparajita’s review: (Aparajita is 9 years old)

The book is an interesting way of conveying the story of Bachendri Pal, unlike the way they teach in school. It is beautifully illustrated and written by Lavanya Karthik and the cover is designed by Samar Bansal.

The book tells us all about how Bachendri Pal felt while climbing the mountain for the first time, just a day before her 13th birthday. Also, it tells us how she felt at night when the demons were surrounding her.

“All night my friends and I fought the demons.”

It is one of my favorite lines as it shows how people can be when they make up their mind to be brave and fearless. I recommend it to readers of all ages.

What my mom (Priya) thinks of the book:

The story of Bachendri Pal is one that we have all grown up on. The feat of a woman summiting the unsurmountable mountains was one that brought awe, joy and wonder even when it was described in the most mundane of ways.

Lavanya has brought the girl behind the story to life through The Girl Who Climbed The Mountains. To know that here was a girl who was just as afraid as all of us are and still managed to scale the Everest is encouraging and hopeful.

The descriptions are vivid and the visuals complement the text beautifully! Thank you, Lavanya for bringing the mountains and Bachendri Pal closer.
