Mahima’s 8yo son, Aarav shared his review with great enthusiasm in the fb group here. Excerpts:
Well, I’ll start by saying this book is now one of my top favourites. I can read it all over again even if I know what’s coming up. Just looking at illustrations can make you laugh. Before I start off I would like to introduce you to some important characters in the book around whom our plot revolves.
Miss. Ahalya Kumar owner of Aha Books aka Miss A
Kavya – Miss A’s niece
Ruth – Miss A’s accountant and store manager
Ashish – Ruth’s son
Riyaaz – Ashish’s best friend
A few more important characters who are part of the plot are – Ms. Suma Chari, Kattabomman – a very special character, Biplob, T-Rek and Kaustubh Warrior.
The story starts at the dinner table of Ashish’s home. I am guessing Ashish will be my age, 8yrs old. Ashish’s Amma – Ruth has to work extra hours as Miss A has undergone surgery and cannot be present at the store. Because of which she wants Ashish to join her at the book store after school. Ashish finds this setup boring, also because he will miss out on joining his friend Riyaaz at the park. Day-1, Ashish reaches the book store and likes the bell that drops small cutouts when people walk through the door. He bumps into Kavya who is all masked up and looks like a ninja with a hand held vacuum cleaner. Ruth introduces Ashish to Kavya. Ashish loves paper crafting that his Appa (dad) taught him. Ashish’s father is no more but he feels connected by doing origami taught by him. Over the next few days Kavya with her wit and drama soon gets Ashish interested in all that’s happening around. They bond over books, papercraft and the very special window display that Kavya loves to decorate alongside books.
She then goes on to discuss strange occurrences at the store which intrigue Ashish too. Eventually with Riyaaz joining the team, the three set off on a mission to uncover the truth about the thief who is stealing Kavya’s scarves and an apparent ghost who goes unnoticed but keeps changing the book from the top shelf of the window display!
Do they crack the secret? Are they able to catch the thief? Is there really a ghost in the story? Who is Kattabomman and what’s his role?
Aha!! I’m not revealing it! You gotta read the story for yourself because you are going to love it and end up laughing so much just like me. I would like to end my review by saying Team Work is Dream Work. With a team of friends everything feels so easy to get done. You can bust strange occurrences or even put a smile on somebody’s face with a good team.
