We absolutely loved our previous recommendation from Kids Book Café — Paro of the Sundarbans. So when Asha ji reached out to ask if we’d like to review another book on Mangroves, it was an instant YES!
The book beautifully introduces children to the world of mangroves and then takes us on a fascinating journey through the many living beings that depend on this ecosystem. From the strong roots and underwater creatures to seagrass, mudflats and mudskippers, birds, arboreal animals, and even the tribes who survive on mangrove fruits — every element is thoughtfully woven into the story. Readers are introduced to an amazing variety of animals like dugongs (the “mermaids of the sea”), green turtles, archer fish, sloths, flamingos, fishing cats, kingfishers, and many more.
This book was both fun and educational to read. We loved learning how mangroves grow in salty water and have special roots, which were so beautifully shown in the illustrations.
It was wonderful to discover how many birds, fishes, and small animals depend on mangroves for food and shelter. The story also highlights how mangroves protect the land from strong waves and storms. The colourful artwork made everything easy to understand and truly brought the mangrove world to life.
My 8-year-old daughter Ananya and 4-year-old daughter Anika absolutely loved the book. It became a lovely family read that we picked up together, discussed, and enjoyed learning from. Moments like these — reading, discovering, and bonding as a family — truly made this book special for us
Thank you to the author, publisher and Kids Book Café for yet another thoughtful book that makes learning about our natural world so engaging and joyful.
