Best Books & Book Series For 6-7 Year Olds: Zoya’s Picks!
Rate this Book / Post

My 7 year old daughter Zoya is an avid reader and loves to read all genres although partial to humour and magic. She is surprisingly fond of some of the classics which normally don’t appeal to children of this generation who find that time lame and slow 🙂

These are some of her favourite books:

Humour

Her favourite author when it comes to humour is definitely Enid Blyton.
The Enchanted Wood (part of Enid Blyton’s The Magic Faraway Tree series)
The 13 Storey Treehouse (part of Andy GriffithsThe Treehouse Books series)
The Little Witch (from the Walker Stories series)

Drama

Matilda (although I would not recommend this for 6 year olds),
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory both by Roald Dahl,
Because of Winn Dixie (Kate Dicamilo),
Mary Poppins (P L Travers. There are other Mary Poppins books as well),
The Velveteen Rabbit

A book which I highly recommend for all children above 5 is
The Invisible Boy by Trudy Ludwig. It’s a beautiful story about a boy whom nobody considers important in class and how he is always left out. He makes amazing sketches and is a bit shy. How he manages to makes friends in the end is a lesson all our children need to learn. Some of them are victims and some of them behave like this with kids who don’t stand out in class. We have read it many times and it is one of our favourite books.

Some series books that Zoya has read all of and loves are:

Alice in Wonderland boxed set by Walker books

Little People Big Dreams Series – we have read all and love the simplicity of these books

Paddington’s London Story Treasury: A collection of four funny stories about Paddington Bear! There is an entire Paddington Series for different age groups.

The 13th Storey Treehouse series.

Since we read a lot, we will soon write a part 2 of this post and share more recommendations. Happy reading till then.

Cheers

Neerja
